Pistis Foundation Commissions New Ward at HTS, Flags Off 2025 UBOMI Medical & Surgical Outreach

Pistis Foundation has officially commissioned a newly constructed and fully equipped ward at the Hospital for Trauma & Surgery (HTS), marking a major milestone in its commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare for underserved communities.

The new ward will significantly increase patient capacity at HTS, enabling more individuals and families to access free and subsidised treatment — not only during the outreach but throughout the year.

The commissioning also signalled the start of the 2025 UBOMI Medical & Surgical Outreach — a five-day medical mission providing free consultations, diagnostics, pharmacy support, dental and eye care, maternal health services, and select surgical procedures for people who cannot afford treatment.

Speaking during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Pistis Foundation Board Chair Godman Akinlabi emphasized that UBOMI is rooted in restoring dignity and removing financial barriers to essential healthcare.

“UBOMI is designed to restore dignity and give vulnerable families access to the care they need without the fear of financial burden. This new ward is more than infrastructure — it is an answer to a pressing need in our communities and a practical demonstration of compassion in action.”

The partnership with HTS also ensures continuity of care beyond the outreach window — a key evolution in UBOMI’s healthcare model.

Reinforcing this, Executive Director Leonard F. Thomas highlighted the long-term health outcomes the programme is designed to support.

“This year, our focus is not just on treatment, but on continuity of care. Beyond the outreach window, patients will receive follow-up support through our partner facility here at HTS. We are building a health access pipeline that ensures long-term wellbeing, especially for families who have been shut out of the healthcare system for years.”

Over the next five days, thousands of beneficiaries are expected to receive medical support through the outreach. For many, this will be their first opportunity in years to see a doctor or receive specialist care — at no cost.
