Pistis Foundation’s Wings Academy Football Program Empowers Over 100 Kids Through Football and Mentorship

This summer, Pistis Foundation’s Wings Academy Football Program in collaboration with The Asumah Brothers (TAB) empowered over 100 children from underserved Lagos communities with structured football training, leadership mentorship, and life-changing opportunities. Running from June 21’s Novelty Match through July 26’s Championship Match, this seven-week youth initiative brought together teams from the Kids-Off-The-Street Shelter, the Jakande community, Lekki Soccer Academy, and The Destiny Trust Foundation. Each week, participants honed ball control, tactical play, fitness routines, and shooting skills through technical drills, team-building exercises, and competitive matches—all designed to instill purpose, discipline, and confidence.

Program Coordinator Saheed Adenekan explains, “Beyond the matches and goals, our goal is transformation. These kids now see possibilities instead of limitations.” That promise came to life on Championship Day when Jakande FC clinched the U13 Boys’ Trophy and the KOTS Girls lifted the U13 Girls’ Trophy to cheers from community members, partners, and guests. Twelve-year-old Divine Asukwo of Jakande FC reflects, “Playing in a real tournament made me believe in myself,” while fellow participant Akarachi Uzor from the KOTS Shelter adds, “I learned how to pass better and support my teammates; I dream of becoming a professional footballer.”

Every child left with a medal, a team kit, and a certificate recognizing growth and dedication. Community engagement events, media coverage, and volunteer support underscored Pistis Foundation’s commitment to youth development in Lagos. Executive Director Leonard F. Thomas notes, “With our partners and volunteers, we’ve built more than a program—we’ve sparked dreams.” As the Wings Academy Football Program evolves into a sustainable talent-discovery and continuous mentorship platform, Pistis Foundation continues to drive lasting change through strategic initiatives in education, healthcare, and shelter for economically disadvantaged communities.
