Ubomi Medical & Surgical Outreach

UBOMI which means “Life”, is a free medical and surgical outreach held in line with the Global Sustainability Development Goal to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

It is held each year in target communities including but not limited to Eti-Osa (Jakande, Ajah), Mainland (Maryland) etc. It provides medical, surgical, dental, eye, pharmaceutical and laboratory services, amongst other things, to underserved members of the communities in which it is held.

Ubomi 4.0 was held on 23rd – 27th October, 2023.

UBOMI is run in partnership with medical institutions and technical partners who provide the medical facilities and expertise. Previous partners have included: Pro-Health International, Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation, Paelon Memorial Hospital, Amethyst Hospital, Chion Family Clinic, Maternal and Child Care Hospital and the Lagos State Ministry of Health.

Over 200 medical and non-medical volunteers from within and outside Nigeria devote their time and service to meet these needs each year. So far, over 13,000 interventions have been carried out successfully with no deaths recorded till date.

Notable events during the medical outreach include the delivery of UBOMI babies, surgical repair of a 3rd degree uterus prolapse, the successful surgical removal of many hernias and fibroids, including one weighing 16kg from a woman who carried the growth for 5 years.
